Dear Lincoln Middle School Community,
We are through with our first week of school and it has been awesome! I’ve seen our 6th graders adjust to middle school life positively and I anticipate that they will create and form new relationships fairly quickly. As adults, let's continue to support them in this transition. 7th and 8th graders have definitely grown over the summer and are being great role models for our younger students. I am so proud of them!
A few reminders for our families this year:
-
Cellphones, Cellular Watches and Ear Buds: While we have communicated this to students already, please note that all cell phones, electronic/cellular watches and ear buds, must be off and away in students’ backpacks during the school day, as stated in our district’s policy. If students are seen on their cellphones, the educator supervising them will confiscate it until the end of the day and parents will have to pick it up at school. We really want to ensure that the environment at Lincoln is focused on learning and being present with each other. There have been several studies in the past decade, pointing to the harmful effects that social media and 24/7 access to cell phones can have on our middle schoolers’ social emotional and brain development. I urge you to check in with your student about healthy habits with screens and ensuring understanding of our district’s cell phone policy.
-
Attendance: We want all our kids at school and ready to learn! School starts right at 8:20 AM. Please make sure that students are arriving at school no later than 8:15 AM to ensure that they begin their classes on time. We appreciate your support with this.
-
Holistic Education: Our mission at Lincoln is to educate our students holistically. This means that we take all their endeavors and classes seriously. While the typical school focuses mostly on reading, math, science and social studies, Lincoln Middle School also expects students to be versed in the Arts, Applied Sciences, and Languages. These classes are equally important and have a positive impact on a student's academic and social development. As you have conversations with your middle schooler about academics, ensure to discuss the importance of a holistic education and the value that it brings. If you want to learn more about this, please see our website or reach out to us!
Lastly, we will be having a Community Campus Night on Thursday, 9/19/24 at 5:00 PM. Please come by to learn more about our school, meet our teachers and know how to get involved.
In partnership,
Principal Ayala
