Roaring Report - April 8, 2024

Lincoln Community,

Happy Spring! We are officially 2/3 into our school year and it has been a great year. I continue to hear positive reviews about our community and my hope is that it continues to be that way. We are so grateful for how far this community has moved and where it is heading.

So far this year, we've had successful Skiing trips, dances, 8th graders have met with their prospective high school counselors and Spirit Week (a byproduct of that is that now Ms. Kastle and I have to dye our hair blue, as decided by the student body 😳).

This week, we have our Parent-Teacher conferences and I'm excited to see you all there. Please make sure you have signed up for a time. If you need help doing this, please contact your student's pride teacher or our office.

As we enter spring, our kiddos can get really energetic! I encourage you to enroll them in after school activities, whether it is through our school or through community partners. Participating in extra-curricular activities are beneficial for students, as it can promote academic achievement and positive social emotional development. I also encourage you to continue monitoring cell phone use and social media use. Though there are some benefits to using cell phones and social media for middle schoolers, such as connecting with family members that may live in different parts of the world, there has been research that shows that unmonitored social media use is linked to mental health problems. Students can develop anxiety, be recipients of cyberbullying or engage in cyberbullying themselves, for example. In such a critical time of their lives, it is important for us to support our kids collectively by helping them manage their usage of cell phones and social media. If feasible, I also encourage you to keep cell phones at home as much as possible so that they can focus on their academic progress and developing healthy relationships at school.

On April 9th, from 1:00pm-6:30pm, you can meet Jonathan Werner, MLTI Ambassador (Maine Learning Technology Initiative), who can help you navigate how to set parental controls on devices and find resources to support healthy social media usage.

Lastly, remember that April 12, 2024 - April 19, 2024 is our Spring Break. Classes resume on April 22, 2024.
