Newsletter - January 26, 2023

Lincoln Families,

Happy New Year and Happy January! It has been quite the welcome back to school – including two snow days! I hope you had an opportunity to share time with your loved ones.

This past week, we also saw a rise in COVID cases in our school community. Our school nurse, Nurse Maria, has been working tirelessly to connect with families who have been affected. At this moment, I am encouraging you to send your child to school with a mask and to maintain proper hygiene (hand washing and keeping them to themselves).

Other important news has to do with our updated district’s cellphone and electronics policy. You can find it linked here. I am asking for you to review this for yourself and review it with your child. Here are a few highlights of the updated policy:

  • In the language of the policy, in addition to cell phones, electronics include: tablets, smartwatches, earbuds and headphones.
  • “At the elementary and middle school levels, during school day hours, all such devices must be turned off or silenced and out of sight.”

  • If cellphones and/or electronics are being used in a way that is disruptive to the educational process: “At the elementary and middle school levels, if this rule is violated, the teacher may immediately confiscate the device for the remainder of the school day, and discipline may be imposed…”

Please note that based on this policy, we expect students to keep their cellphones off and away. If not, we will confiscate them and the student’s parent will have to pick up the cellphone at school.

Lastly, I am encouraging you to continue discussions with your children about respect for themselves, their peers, their teachers and the broader school community. As we continue charting our way through this school year, it is important to stop and reflect on how we can continue contributing to our community in a respectful and nurturing way.

Best,

Principal Ayala

School Store - The school store is back up and running! Thanks to Bobbie Thibodeau & Blake Kastle for leading this on the school-side and Mike and Libby Lauze for spearheading this on the PTO stocking and staffing side! (If you’d like to help out, contact Mike at michael.lauze@gmail.com).

The school store is one of our key PBIS strategies. Educators are asked to give out tickets when they see students meeting expectations and being positive members of our school community. We ask teachers to specifically name the student and the positive action as an effort to promote open celebrations of awesomeness and positive interactions. The store provides students an opportunity for students to cash in the tickets they’ve earned for cool prizes and things that will help them in school!
