SPRING Bike and Walk to School Week
A special thanks to everyone who participated in Bike and Walk to School  week.  It was great seeing everyone getting exercise before school and reducing our carbon footprint.  You are encouraged to continue biking and walking throughout the rest of the school year.

-Registration is now open for the Middle School Summer Academy- Parents can now access summer school registration here at the Portland Public Schools website. Parents will be asked to indicate that their child is applying to the MS Summer Academy which will be held at USM in Portland.  The two-week program is FREE and is open to all rising 7th and 8th graders, though we would love to target students who could use additional time and support to meet standards and who would benefit from participating in this summer learning program.  The deadline for registration is May 31.

Maine Fuel Up to Play 60 Student Leadership Day

Members of Lincoln Middle School's student wellness team attended the Maine Fuel Up to Play 60 Student Leadership Day on Saturday, June 2nd at the University of New England Harold Alfond Forum in Biddeford.  The student members attending were Nicole Quang, Isabella Puelo, and Roxie Van Oosterum.  Teacher advisors attending were Denise Preisser and Christel Driscoll.  Student teams shared highlights of wellness events held at their schools and then led the group in a variety of physical activities.   After a fabulous lunch, students met in groups to brainstorm ideas to help make their wellness teams stronger and develop plans on how to get their peers involved more next year.

Jenni Tilton-Flood attended and spoke on behalf of the Maine dairy farmers fund which helps fund Fuel Up to Play 60 events like this one.  Clare Egan, a member of the US Biathlon Team shared her story via video on success and perseverance to help any student meet their personal goals.  Another special guest, Jacob Hollister #47, from the New England Patriots spoke to the students about leadership and then led a station of throwing and catching footballs to student leaders. The conference promoted the premise that "Healthy Students are Better Students" and how can schools help make this happen.
