As part of their study of genetics and heredity, 7th grade Popham House students worked with Jamie Welch, a scientist at Portland-based company Envirologix.  Last Thursday, March 26 Jamie discussed and answered questions about GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) as well as careers in science.  Students used Envirologix's GMO test kit to determine if corn and cotton plants were a GMO variety resistant to the herbicide Roundup. They also tested corn seed to determine if it was the GMO variety that killed cornworm or the regular, non-GMO variety. Thank you Envirologix and Jamie for spending the day with Popham House!
