7th grade UNE VisitOn April 16th Popham House students spent the day visiting labs and scientists at the University of New England in Biddeford.  Students visited the beach to learn about how scientists study currents using ocean drifters with marine-debris researcher Lauran Bien. Students saw and touched different invertebrates with scientist Jenna Cava, they learned about whale and seal adaptations in the Silokowski Lab, and they did an experiment about bases and acids with the UNE Chemistry Club.  On April 17th, researchers from UNE's Center for Excellence in the Neurosciences led a sheep-brain dissection with Surfside House students as part of their study of body systems. Both of these activities are part of our ongoing collaboration with researchers at the University of New England.
