Welcome!  All were welcomed by Co-presidents Lisa and Kim and an Agenda for the evening was distributed to all in attendance.

.

Bake Sale:  Deb Barlock, Chair reported the April bake sale brought in $74.00.  The remaining bake sales in May and June are anticipated to bring in another $150.00 for budgeting purposes.

Dance Committee:  Rita Siavelis, Chair reported that arrangements are underway for the “Spring Fling” dance, the final of the 2007-08 year.  It will be held on Friday evening, May 9.  This dance will be held in the cafeteria.  Lisa will research a less expensive vendor and order the glow necklaces.  Rita will send out an email for volunteers to chaperone, decorate and bring in snacks for sale. Lemonade jugs and a couple of large coolers for ice will be needed.

Treasurer Report:  Treasurer, Mary Ellen Randall offered the April PTFO Budget Report.   The current bank balance is approximately $1,034.00 without the April bake sale and cash box.

Clynk Fundraiser: Kim Crabill has purchased a number of the Clynk bags w/bar codes with the current funds in our account.  The Forest Avenue Hannaford kiosk is now open. A discussion ensued about whether Clynk may consider giving out an empty bag w/bar code to those bringing in full bags for our LMS account to assist with keeping the fundraiser ongoing.  In addition, we talked about the most effective way to distribute the Clynk bags we have now to best support the success of this new fundraiser. As the bags need to be purchased, we want to be confident that those who take them will fill and deliver them.   Some possibilities include providing visible signage for students and parents, provide volunteers at special events with the bags to collect bottles and introducing Clynk at our bottle drive.  We will revisit this at the next meeting.

Bottle Drive Fundraiser:  Kim Crabill will call the Brighton Ave Redemption Center for possible dates in May to hold this fundraiser.   She will inform us via email of Saturday dates available.  Drinda will create a flyer for advertising and distribution.

Teachers’ Appreciation Month:   Deb Barlock, Chair reported that the library will be available for a relaxing, sit-down luncheon on May 8.  “Comfort foods” will be the main menu for the luncheon and a visible bowl of treats and signs will be available each day of the week.  Deb will e-mail for volunteers to prepare foods, help with serving, cleanup and provide plates, napkins, utensils, etc.

High School Scholarship Request:  Principal Rossi reviewed a yearly scholarship request received from Deering High, Portland High & Paths.  In past years, each school awards a $100 scholarship to a former LMS graduate.  These are typically awarded the 1st week in June.  After discussion, it was agreed to revisit this request at our April and May meetings.  The PTFO is expecting to receive additional Mini-Grant requests and will be able to make a more informed decision after calculating the funds we receive from the upcoming fundraisers.  The PTFO will consider the LMS Mini-Grant requests a first priority before evaluating if the scholarship funds would be available.

Possible Cash Donation Fundraiser:  With current budget cuts, the PTFO predicts that Mini-Grant requests may be plentiful in the 2008-2009 school year.  To this end, the PTFO discussed implementing a new fundraiser which would essentially provide for an opportunity for the community to support LMS through cash donations.  Drinda will draft a letter for PTFO review and more discussion at our April meeting.
