Summary:
The book, Hoot is about a boy named Roy who is the new kid in school.  He doesn’t make very many friends.  On the first day of school he meets a boy named Dana on the bus.  Dana was a bully and was picking on Roy and Roy noticed a strange boy running down the street and he had no shoes on.  Roy was very curious and the next day he followed the running boy and he couldn’t keep up.  All through the book Roy gets to know the running boy and his step sister Beatrice.

Review:
Hoot is a book that you will not be able to put down once you start to read it.  Everything about this book is good; the characters, the plot, and the setting make this book what it is.  Some of the book is funny and some of it is a mystery.  Roy and his friend Beatrice learn a lot about not giving up on something  that you believe in.
The best part of the book Hoot by Carl Hiaasen is the plot.  There are a  lot of surprising events in the book Hoot.  The best parts are towards the end of the book.  Not very many surprising things happen in the ending but it is very funny.  A lot of people won’t read a book if the beginning isn’t very interesting but this is a book you should definitely finish.

Next he turned his withering gaze upon the forlorn foreman.  “Mr. Branitt, please uproot this... this stringy weed.”
“Wouldn’t try it,”  Beatrice’s stepbrother warned through clenched jaws.
            ‘Really. A why not?’
The boy smiled.  ‘Roy, do me a favor. Check out what’s in the bucket.’
Roy was happy to oblige.
‘What do you see?’ the boy asked.
            “Cottonmouth moccasins,’” Roy replied.
            “How many?”
            “About nine or ten.”
            “They look happy. Roy?”
            “Not really.”
“What do you think is going to happen  if I tip that thing over?” With his tongue, Mullet Fingers displayed the string that connected him to the bucket.

That was just one of the surprising events that happen in this story.  Trust me there are a lot.  The surprising events are one of the best things about this book that make you want to read.
Hoot is one of the best books that I have read.  I think that Carl Hiaasen is a good author.  So if you like shocking or surprising events in a story then you should read the book Hoot.
