Summary:  A young girl named Annie tells about the struggles her and her older sister go though during World War II.  Everyone thought that the war wouldn’t last long, two years it lasted.  Of course it seemed longer for Annie and her sister because of the fact that they were locked in a tiny room throughout the whole war, plus being separated from the rest of their family made it even more miserable.  Not to mention the recent death of her mother.  Since Annie and her older sister were jewish they were in great danger of getting taken away and sent to a jewish camp of some sort, but it was even more dangerous for the family that was kind enough to put their lives in danger by hiding Annie and Sini (her sister) in the upstairs room of their house.  Which would be where they would build a secret hiding spot for them to hide in if the german soldiers were to come in at any point.  World War II finally ends and Annie recreates her life, and   creates a family of her own.

Review:  How would you like to be locked in a tiny room for two years with your older sibling, thinking that you would be there for only a couple of weeks?  I know I sure wouldn’t be happy.  Well imagine how Annie and her older sister felt.  If you have read this before you know how good of a book this is.  And if you haven’t then what are you waiting for!?  When my teacher told us that we would be reading a book and I found out that I would be reading The Upstairs Room, I wasn’t that thrilled.  But as soon as I started reading I could NOT put the book down!  I’m telling you if you like to read non-fiction books that make you gasp, waiting, reading on even though your eyes hurt from reading to much, just to see what happens next, then this is the book for you.
